Design for Excellence: DFM, DFC & Lifecycle Design

Close cooperation between design, engineering, and production teams ensures that products meet functional and performance requirements while also being optimized for manufacturing efficiency, cost control, and long-term reliability.

Design principles such as DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFC (Design for Cost), and full lifecycle design are applied from the earliest development stages, so every product is designed for manufacturability and competitiveness before it reaches production.

Internal Laboratory Capabilities

Our in-house laboratory supports design verification, reliability testing, and electronics failure analysis. Internal laboratory capabilities include:

  • 3D microscope
  • 2D X-ray inspection & X-ray CT
  • Ionic contamination testing (resistivity solvent extraction)
  • Staining tests
  • Solderability testing
  • Pull & shear testing
  • Strain measurement
  • OGP measurement
  • Technical cleanliness measurement

External Laboratory Capabilities

Where deeper analysis is required, we cooperate with certified partner laboratories. External laboratory capabilities include:

  • BGA endoscope
  • C-SAM
  • Curve tracer
  • Decapsulation
  • Ion chromatography contamination testing
  • ROHS compliance testing
  • Wetting balance solderability testing
  • SEM / EDS
  • FTIR analysis
  • Thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, TMA, etc.)
  • Cross sectioning

Customized Test System Development

A key differentiator of Aurightec is our on-site capability to design and develop customized test systems according to customer needs — a service that many companies rely on external providers for. Our test development capabilities cover product and test system design, prototyping, new product introduction, and verification. We design and implement customer-specific test concepts, including:

  • Functional and in‑circuit test solutions
  • End‑of‑line (EOL) test systems
  • Automated and semi‑automated test setups
  • Test fixtures, adapters, and test software

These solutions are developed in parallel with the product design to ensure early testability, higher fault coverage, faster ramp-up, and stable serial production. Dedicated laboratory equipment and experienced test engineers support validation across prototype, NPI, and mass production phases. Where required, we also cooperate with certified third-party laboratories for EMC, RF, safety, CE, and other regulatory approvals.

Embedded Software, Simulation & Failure Analysis

Embedded software development is supported from low-level firmware and communication interfaces to advanced control, imaging, and automation solutions. Mechanical and electronic design can be combined with simulation and analysis to ensure reliable performance under real operating conditions.

Our specialists maintain a comprehensive electronics failure analysis knowledge base and have extensive experience with typical electronic failures, including:

  • Solder joint cracks
  • Corrosion and electrochemical migration
  • ESD / EOS damage
  • MLCC cracks
  • Black pad
  • Tin whiskers
  • CAF
  • Popcorn effect
  • Other reliability‑related failure mechanisms

This expertise allows us to identify root causes quickly and implement robust design and test improvements.

Electronic Product Development — Frequently Asked Questions

What is electronic product development?

Electronic product development is the process of turning a product idea into a manufacturable electronic device. It covers concept evaluation, schematic design and PCB layout, embedded software development, prototyping, testing, and validation — followed by industrialization for serial production. Aurightec supports the full process or any single stage of it.

What are the stages of electronic product development?

At Aurightec, development typically moves through five stages: concept and design, prototyping, industrialization and new product introduction (NPI), serial production, and lifecycle support. Because design, sourcing, and manufacturing are integrated within one group, products transition between stages without handover losses.

What is design for manufacturing (DFM)?

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) means designing a product so it can be manufactured efficiently, reliably, and at optimal cost. Together with Design for Cost (DFC) and full lifecycle design, DFM is applied at Aurightec from the earliest development stages to reduce production risks and improve product competitiveness.

Does Aurightec develop embedded software and firmware?

Yes. Our embedded software development ranges from low-level firmware and communication interfaces to advanced control, imaging, and automation solutions, developed alongside the hardware design.

What is electronics failure analysis?

Electronics failure analysis identifies the root cause of defects and reliability issues in electronic products — such as solder joint cracks, electrochemical migration, ESD/EOS damage, or tin whiskers. Aurightec performs failure analysis with internal laboratory equipment and certified partner laboratories, feeding results back into design and test improvements.

Can Aurightec design test systems for my product?

Yes. We design and build customized test systems in-house — including functional and in-circuit test solutions, end-of-line (EOL) systems, and test fixtures and software — developed in parallel with your product design to ensure early testability and stable serial production.
